Not all CS:GO skins were created equally. Valveâs shooter has an interesting approach when it comes to its skins. To make each weapon finish unique, a random value is assigned to every skin dropped, unboxed, or crafted through a Trade-Up Contract.
In CS:GO, the same weapon finish can look very different depending on its float value.
What is âFloatâ in CS:GO?
To quote the official definition: âFloat value is the precise wear value of the skin. This value could be between 0 and 1, where 0 is the least wear.â To put it simply: The higher the float value of your skin, the greater the external wear.

Does the Float Value Change?
While graffities have limited uses, weapon finishes in CS:GO donât degrade. The skinâs float value will always stay the same. You can drop it, sell it, put stickers on it â the float value is set in stone.
How do I check the Float Value in CS:GO?
At first glance, it can be difficult to find out what your skinâs float value is, so here are three ways to check an itemâs wear level.

Three ways to check your skins float value:
1. If you own the skin, you can use the in-game inventory to find out what its float is. Click on the skin and select âinspectâ. To see the itemâs float value, hover your mouse above the small i. âWear ratingâ is what you are looking for.
2. To check the wear level of a skin on the Steam Market, simply click on the listing an select âinspect in gameâ. Your CS:GO inventory will open up and you can inspect the listed item as if it were your own.

What is a good float value?
The obvious answer is the: lower the better. But how good a skin looks in-game doesnât just depend on the float value. Some skins donât get scratches but instead look like the color has faded a bit. Sometimes, all the scratches are on the bottom or right side of your weapon which you rarely see.
For CS:GO skins, the float value greatly impacts the price. When acquiring a new skin, it might be worth to take a look at what its lower wear levels look like. Just going from Factory-New to Field-Tested sometimes cuts the price in half. Always make sure to check how the skin looks in-game, though.
