TrueView CS2 Update

Valve introduces TrueView – More realistic demo playback in Counter-Strike

With its latest update, Valve is introducing a new feature called TrueView for demo playback. This will make recorded matches much closer to the actual player experience in the future.

What changes with TrueView?

Previously, demo playback was based on the server’s view – without taking network latency into account. This often led to moments where hits and misses were not always comprehensible.

With TrueView, the client-side prediction of the observed player is now re-executed. This makes the replay much more accurate and more closely matches what the player actually saw and experienced in the match.

A comparison video impressively shows the difference between the previous demo replay and the new TrueView display.

Important details from Valve

Valve points out a few things to keep in mind when using TrueView:
TrueView is version-dependent. It is disabled by default if the game version of the demo replay does not match the version with which the demo was originally recorded. In addition, small deviations are still possible. Even with TrueView enabled, there may be slight differences, especially in slow motion. If the observed player used damage prediction, this is now also simulated – even for opposing players.
